The Duke Foundation and the Hawaii Department of Transportation recently revealed the new Duke Kahanamoku legacy license plate design by local artist @kameahadar. The specialty license plates are expected to be available for purchase in late 2025 through local DMV vehicle registration offices across the islands, with proceeds supporting critical drowning prevention initiatives and swimming programs throughout Hawaii.

While Hawaii produces some of the most highly skilled watermen and waterwomen in the world, drowning is the leading cause of death for our keiki ages 1-15, and Hawaii ranks second in the nation for drowning rates among residents. The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation partnered with the Hawaii Water Safety Coalition to create recommendations to ensure that everyone in Hawaii is safe in, on, and around the water.
