Legendary swimmer Bill Smith diligently carried on the tradition of Hawaiian Olympic swimmers that Duke Kahanamoku started. A two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 400-meter freestyle and the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, Bill set records on the world's stage. Before his Olympic triumphs, he was undefeated competing at Ohio State in their swimming and diving team. Under the tutelage of fellow Hall of Famer, Soichi Sakamoto, Bill honed his craft near the sugar mill in Puʻunene.
