2016's recipient of the Duke Kahanamoku Ambassador of Aloha Scholarship is Zoey Fox. With a GPA exceeding 3.92, and an International Baccalaureate Program Certificate, Zoey will be graduating from Henry J. Kaiser High School and has been accepted to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she will pursue a degree in Architecture and Engineering.
In addition to her success in the classroom, Zoey was voted Class President all four years of high school, is a four-year letter winner, and stand out, in swimming and water polo, the percussion Drumline leader in the marching band, president of Kaiser’s National Honor Society, holds leadership positions in the LEO and Interact Club, works as a keiki swim instructor at Diamond Head Aquatics, and dances hula. The Fox family has no previous military experience but, with her desire to give back, Zoey has enrolled in the ROTC at Cal Poly SLO and, upon graduation, will serve in the military where she hopes to travel and gain worldly experiences that she can bring home to Hawaii. In her words, when she returns, she wants ‘to play a part in ensuring that military developments preserve our cultural traditions and environment and that our kupuna my live close to their families in affordable housing so they don’t feel the need to move to the mainland or live in poverty.’
The committee found her to be effortlessly genuine and passionate, with a strong sense of community and Aloha Spirit. She will be an outstanding Ambassador of Aloha for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation.
