PAST AMBASSADORS

2017's co-recipient of the Duke Spirit Scholarship is Carolyn Price, an outstanding scholar, community activist, athlete and youth leader from the island of Kauai. She will pursue an undergraduate degree in political science at Wellesley College while competing in Cross Country/Track before attending law school. Her passion for service to our community has guided her towards an eventual career in elected public office.


2017's co-recipient of the Duke Spirit Scholarship is Maia Petrides, the daughter of Martha and James Petrides, and a graduate of Mid-Pacific. A competitive swimmer for eleven years, Maia is active in the governing board of Hawaii and USA swimming. Committed to community service, Maia has served the kupuna of Hawaii since middle school. She will attend Washington State University.


2017's recipient of the $15,000 Duke Kahanamoku Ambassador of Aloha Scholarship is Lily Nalulani Jenkins. She has been zealous about conservation work in her Molokai home since second grade – participating in wetland and fishpond restoration projects, banding Native Hawaiian shorebirds, and conducting research projects on the effect of invasive marine species. She plans to study Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science at the University of North Carolina.
